Washcloths are the perfect project for any crochet beginner.
I am going to walk you through how to create a simple yet very useful washcloth that you can keep or gift to a loved one in no time at all! When you see how easy they are to create you will be making them in every color of the rainbow!
Supplies:
I recommend using a worsted weight cotton yarn and an “I” size crochet hook. Cotton yarn is very durable and can be thrown in the dryer and it will hold up remarkably well.
An “I” size crochet hook is the perfect size for any beginner to use with ease.
Beginner Washcloth Instructions:
STEP 1
Create a slip knot and foundation chain by stitching the number of chain stitches desired. -I made 26 stitches on mine- You are now ready to work the first row of single crochet stitches.
STEP 2
Insert the hook into the second chain stitch (not the last stitch you made).
Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the loop to create a new loop on your hook.
You now have 2 loops on your hook.
STEP 3
Yarn over and pull the yarn through both of the loops. You will be left with one stitch on your hook and a completed single crochet stitch.
STEP 4
Now you continue repeating Step 3- Yarn over and pull this yarn through both loops completing your next single crochet stitch.
STEP 5
When you reach the end of your foundation row, chain 1, and turn your work. Now you are ready to work your next row.
STEP 6
Work a stitch in the single crochet stitch from the previous row by inserting your hook under the “V” (2 top threads of the single crochet below), draw up a loop and pull through both loops.
STEP 7
Continue until the desired length is achieved.
STEP 8
Create 10 chain stitches and secure them in the third stitch from the hook.
STEP 9
Fasten off your work, weave in your yarn tail, and enjoy!
