Knitting needles are a knitter’s pride and joy. Having your favorite pair available when you are starting your next project really makes all the difference in the world!
Knowing how to care for knitting needles is an important topic to ensure they are kept in top shape and will last you for many years to come.
Needle Sources:
Here is a list of ways to care for your needles:
- Store your needles in a needle case to prevent breakage when they are not in use.
- Use needle point protectors to protect the delicate tips of your needles.
- Keep them away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to prevent them from cracking or melting.
- Only use your needles for knitting.
- Clean your wooden needles a few times a year. Wipe them with a clean cloth and then apply beeswax and buff off. You can also rub them with wax paper to moisturize them. Let them dry for a day before using them.
- Keep your current project in a project bag made of quilting quality fabric and not a plastic grocery bag. Your son could trip and get a sharp bamboo knitting needle stuck in his foot that could get infected and lead to an ER trip. Ask me how I know!!
With a little bit of love and care your knitting needles should last for many years. You will definitely get a feel for which ones are your absolute favorites. I hope these tips help you out. Please comment below with your favorite tips and I will add them to my list.
